Licks

A growing vocabulary of blues and rock lead licks: each one shown on the fretboard in play order, playable at any tempo, and tied to the week of the practice path that teaches it.

Scales tell you which notes are available. Licks are the phrases players actually reach for, and they are the part that transfers — a scale you can run is not a sentence you can say. Each of these is written from the standard devices of the idiom rather than lifted off a record, and each sits in A minor pentatonic box 1 at the 5th fret so it lands on a shape you already own.

Every lick shows its positions numbered in the order you play them, so notes sharing a number sound together. Drop the tempo until it is clean before you bring it back up — a lick played fast and approximately is not learned.
